Originally conceived as a sedative and therapeutic agent, Sleep Health was released as a 34-minute LP via Room40 in 2013.
Recorded over several nights during an artist residency on Kabi Kabi country, Australia, the work emerged from a period of insomnia and concern for an ailing family member on the other side of the planet. Its intention was utilitarian: at first to induce sleep, to function as an audio sleeping pill with a tangible purpose. During the process, the recordings were also sent abroad, in the hope that they might offer comfort and relief across the distance, a utopian attempt to provide healing.
Sleep Health is both a personal aid and a long-distance medicinal instrument exploring dream states, rest, slumber, and the fragile desire to feel better.
Heinz Riegler now performs Sleep Health live for the first time in years, in Salzburg, returning the piece to its intended home.

Heinz Riegler
Heinz Riegler (b. 1969, Vienna) is an interdisciplinary artist working across sound, installation, video and performance. He is based on Gubbi Gubbi land in South East Queensland, Australia. Riegler works from attentive observation and material encounters as points of departure. He is currently composing music for a feature film and developing a long-term exhibition project examining family histories and the inheritance of violence. He is also continuing to expand an ongoing series of installation works based on the discovery of 104 rudimentary Russian educational robots discarded in a suburban Australian carpark.
