Society of Friends
The Society of Friends was founded in 2001 with the aim of keeping the Summer Academy alive as an international venue for artistic participation and cultural encounters in Salzburg.
Every year, the Society of Friends awards scholarships for participation in the diverse course programme. Most recently, a jury of experts selected 45 students from 300 participants. The Summer Academy's scholarship programme is unique in this respect and allows the Summer Academy to continue its almost 70-year tradition at a high international level.
Founded in 1953 by the Austrian artist Oskar Kokoschka (1886-1980) as the "School of Seeing", the Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts is the oldest of its kind in Europe. Every year, over 20 courses are offered by international artists, curators and authors, with more than 300 students taking part. Students often return to Salzburg to teach at the Summer Academy, sometimes as established artists.

With your membership, you enable selected scholarship holders to become enthusiastic about the visual arts in Salzburg, to try out various artistic media and to engage in creative thinking about our time.
Collect art
Every year, the Society of Friends publishes high-quality prints by internationally renowned artists, which can be purchased at a special member price. The proceeds also go to international scholarship holders.
Meet artists and curators
Art trips, studio visits and gallery tours provide insights into contemporary art. The association organizes trips to biennials worldwide, urban art centers, historical cultural sites and international art academies.
As a member, you will receive
