Academy
- Does the academy take security measures?
Students must be aware that allergenic substances, such as oil-paints, may be used in classes, and are responsible for taking their own health measures. The use of turpentine is absolutely forbidden. - Can I bring a visitor to the academy?
Entrance to SAFA premises is restricted to students, teachers and members of SAFA staff. Other visitors have access to classes only after checking in at the office, and accompanied by SAFA staff. Exceptions are the open-house presentations and parties.

- Where can I stay in Salzburg during my courses?

Application Process
- Can I apply for more than one course?
Yes, but you need to do a separate application for each course that you wish to apply to. - How can I apply to a course?
Apply with the formular online and send your portfolio (when necessary) and CV. - Is there a required education degree for attending the academy?
There is no required degree or study for applying. - Is there an age restriction to apply?
The minimum to apply is 16 years old.
Courses
- Can I change my course once I was accepted?
The selection process takes their applicants seriously, so this is not an option. - What happens if I arrive late to a course?
You still can join without problem. - What happens if I can’t attend class for one or more days?
You can resume classes as soon as you can and ask the instructor about the missed class. - How long do the courses last?
2-3 weeks. Monday to Saturday, whole day. - Where are the courses held?
In The medieval Festung Hohensalzburg [Hohensalzburg Fortress], which stands on a hill overlooking the old town, offers students a historically charged ambience to work in. The studios are in the former grain store within the fortress precinct.

And in the Steinbruch [quarry] Untersberg in Fürstenbrunn, located at the foot of the Untersberg, to the south of Salzburg. Classes in the quarry offer students a combination of working and living in natural surroundings. Students and teachers generally live and work together in the former workers' housing, with a large dormitory for the students.

Payment / Refund
- Which methods of payment can I use?
After your acceptance, you get an invoice for payment. You can deposit from bank or credit card. - I can’t attend anymore. Can I get a full refund?
Once acceptance for a course has been confirmed, the non-refundable enrolment charge of € 100. In case of cancellation at short notice or premature departure, if no substitute is available, a cancellation fee of € 100.– will be charged. A refund of the course fee is possible only in cases of proven "force majeure" (illness, accident, death in family, matters related to the Covid-19 pandemic). Other reasons (dissatisfaction, programme changes) do not entitle students to a refund. In cases of "force majeure," cancellation should be made immediately, with written proof of the reasons for cancellation, otherwise the full tuition fee must be paid. Cancellation is not possible after a course has begun.
Should the Summer Academy have to cancel a course, all payments made will be refunded. This also applies in case of entry restrictions into Austria.
