Criss-Cross #2
2. 8. 24, 9 p.m. – 1 a.m.

The Criss-Cross music programme by artist, queer activist, and curator Zosia Hołubowska consists of live acts and music sets that combine experimental and electronic club music. The invited musicians and DJs celebrate local communities and connections. Each event follows a no-headliner rule so that different scenes and initiatives from Austria and Central Europe come together on an equal footing over the summer. Expect music that questions genre borders, brave and vulnerable performances, and diversity of talents. The selection strives to center marginalized perspectives and music charged with subversive messages.

Martyyna

Martyyna is a Prague born & based producer. Her debut EP AWAKEN, utilizing and dissecting traditional Asian instruments such as guzheng and erhu, saw the light in 2020 on the local BCAA system label and was considered among the top Czech records of that year by the Wire magazine. Her debut album “Written In The Scars” premiered in an AV live show as part of Lunchmeat festival 2023 and was recently released on Mexican label Infinite Machine.

Crafted with both chaos and care, Martyyna’s music weaves together diverse sonic elements that mirror her emotional ups and downs, drawing from her architectural background to sculpt meticulous soundscapes. After a journey of healing, overcoming challenges, and delving into her dreams, Martyyna's tracks serve as a testament to her artistic evolution, capturing intricate layers of mood shifts and personal introspection. This transformation from the tangible world of architecture to the intangible realm of music reflects Martyyna’s profound exploration of her inner self and creative expression.

মm.

(read: mwo, just like the Bangla alphabet), a DJ, curator, and community organizer based in Dhaka & Vienna. They curate playlists and mix DJ sets along historical and socio-cultural movements of sounds and music and, when possible, they try to evoke the listener's nostalgia. Their sets are percussion-driven, featuring genres, styles, and rhythms from the global South with intentions to trace collaborative music histories across the larger region. Their sets are heavily inspired by diasporic movements, memories, and hybridities. They can feature genres ranging from popular Bollywood music, batida, dancehall, baile funk, and afrobeat to hip-hop, house, vogue cuts, kuduro, soca, jungle, hard percussions, and techno, really depending on the mood and space. The style of music they play, they like to call it “south-on-south”, and they try to embed it in movements of club & dance influences worldwide.
