Incorporating Legacies: Institutional Strategies after Reconciliation

Wolfgang Brauneis lives and works as an art historian and curator in Cologne and Nuremberg. In 2021 he curated the exhibition Die Liste der Gottbegnadeten. Künstler des Nationalsozialismus in der Bundesrepublik at the German Historical Museum in Berlin, and last year curated the exhibition Weisen Sie das Geschenk zurück! Die Kontroverse um Die Frau Musica on Hermann Kaspar at the Meistersingerhalle Nuremberg. He is currently the director of the Kunstverein Nürnberg - Albrecht Dürer Gesellschaft and is investigating its history in the Nazi and post-war periods as part of a research and exhibition project.

Helga Embacher is a professor of contemporary history at the University of Salzburg. She was visiting professor at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, and at the University of Haifa. Her main fields of research are national socialism, Jewish history, migration, Israel, and antisemitism. She is currently working on Jewish history in Europe since the 1990s., She is the coauthor (together with Bernadette Edtmaier and Alexandra Preitschopf) of the book “Antisemitismus in Europe. Fallbeispiele eines globalen Phänomens” (Vienna 2019).

Anselm Wagner was born in 1965 and studied art history, philosophy and classical archaeology at the universities of Salzburg and Munich (diploma 1991, doctorate 2002). 1992-96 he was co-founder and managing director of Galerie 5020 in Salzburg. From 1996-2008 he held teaching positions and assistantships at various universities in Salzburg, Linz, Graz and Vienna. In addition, he worked as an art critic for various daily newspapers and as an editor of the art magazines frame and spike (both Vienna). He was a research fellow at the Clark Art Institute Williamstown, Massachusetts, and a visiting professor at TU Wien, TU Graz and the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. Since 2010 he has been Professor of Architectural Theory and Head of the Institute for Architectural Theory, Art and Cultural Studies at TU Graz. Wagner is dean of the Doctoral School Architecture, head of several FWF research projects, editor of the book series architektur und analyse (published by jovis, Berlin, since 2012) and was a member of the Graz Old Town Expert Commission 2011-2020. Wagner's research areas are 20th century architectural history with a focus on the "Graz School", critical architectural theory and cultural studies architectural research.
