Festung Hohensalzburg

The Hohensalzburg Fortress, a medieval castle located in the centre of the city of Salzburg, offers students a working environment in a historical context.

The studios are located in the so-called "Schüttkasten" within the castle grounds, which is a self-contained area on the fortress hill above Salzburg and at the same time an integral part of the historic city centre.

Lesson times are from Monday to Friday and are set by the course instructors at the fortress and in the quarry.

The course begins on the first day of the course at 10 a.m. at the respective course location and ends with a final exhibition on the last Friday and Saturday morning of the course. The last Saturday of each course is used to dismantle and tidy up the studios (until 1 pm).

Please note that the studios at Hohensalzburg Fortress can only be reached on foot or by the fortress railway and that it is difficult to transport materials.

Accessibility
The studios on the fortress can be reached on foot from Nonnberggasse, Kaigasse and Festungsgasse or by taking the fortress railway from Festungsgasse. The fortress railway runs every 10 minutes daily from 9 am to 9.30 pm. Daily, weekly and monthly tickets are sold at the ticket counter - these must be paid for by the students themselves. Hohensalzburg Fortress is not suitable for people with walking difficulties.

From Salzburg main station: Bus route 1 / 3 / 5 / 6 / 23 / 25 / 160 / 170 / 175 direction Salzburg-Süd, get off at the town hall and walk 14 minutes through the old town.

Study passes
Unless otherwise communicated, a student ID card will be available for all participants to collect from the office at Hohensalzburg Fortress at the start of the course. This entitles the holder to participate in the respective course. The student ID card also entitles the holder to free or reduced admission to various Salzburg museums. Common room with internet access for students

Materials
The equipment for the Summer Academy is available to participants on loan (easels, modelling stands, lockers, chairs and stools). You must bring your own tools, materials and work clothes (see individual course descriptions).

Please note that our office at Michael-Pacher-Straße 27 will be closed for the duration of the course.

Steinbruch Untersberg

The Steinbruch [quarry] Untersberg in Fürstenbrunn which is commercially operated by Marmor Kiefer is located at the foot of the Untersberg, to the south of Salzburg. Classes in the quarry offer students a combination of working and living in natural surroundings. Students and teachers generally live and work together in the former workers' housing, with a large dormitory for the students.
Catering is organized communally in the kitchen and dining premises.

Dormitory accommodation: € 7.– per night.

There is a small showroom on the ground floor of the main house.

Accessibility
Fürstenbrunn is a part of the town of Grödig, about 10 km south of Salzburg.
You can reach it by bus no. 21 (approx. 30 min. from Salzburg) followed by a 15-minute walk.
